Purpose: This study aims to investigate the impact of institutional pressures (regulatory, customer, and competitive) and sustainability capacity (senior management leadership and technical capabilities) on the sustainable performance of Iran Khodro Company, with a focus on the mediating role of sustainable supply chain management practices. It seeks to elucidate how these factors contribute to enhancing economic, environmental, and social performance in Iran’s automotive industry.
Methodology: Employing a descriptive-survey research design with an applied orientation, data were collected from 351 employees of Iran Khodro using standardized questionnaires adapted from Dai et al. (2021). Data analysis was conducted using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM), with the reliability and validity of the instruments confirmed through metrics such as Cronbach’s alpha, Convergent Validity, and Divergent Validity.
Findings: The results indicate that institutional pressures and sustainability capacity have a significant and positive influence on sustainable supply chain management practices and sustainable performance. Additionally, sustainable supply chain management practices mediate the relationship between institutional pressures, sustainability capacity, and sustainable performance.
Implications: It is recommended that Iran Khodro Company transform institutional pressures into sustainability opportunities by strengthening sustainable supply chain management practices, including green product design and improving engagement with green suppliers. Also, strengthening internal capacities, such as senior management leadership and investment in clean technologies, can help improve sustainable performance in economic, social, and environmental dimensions.
