Abstract

Sustainability is widely recognized as a pervasive phenomenon that underpins the operations and performance of businesses. Therefore, the main goal of the current research is to examine the role of the adoption of the Internet of Things and artificial intelligence on the performance of the sustainable chain with the mediating role of circular economy practices. The statistical population of the research includes experts, managing directors, supply chain, marketing and sales, and production and operations of knowledge-based companies active in the science and technology park of Urmia city. 40 companies were selected by simple random sampling method and 120 questionnaires were distributed among managers (three questionnaires for each knowledge-based company). The data collection tool was a standard questionnaire whose validity was confirmed by experts and its reliability was estimated using Cronbach's alpha coefficient. Structural equation modeling was used to analyze the research data. The findings of the research showed that the adoption of the Internet of Things and artificial intelligence has a positive and meaningful effect on the performance of the sustainable supply chain. In addition, the adoption of the Internet of Things and artificial intelligence has a positive and significant effect on circular economy practices. Also, the research results show that there was a positive and significant effect between circular economy practices and sustainable supply chain performance. Based on the results, the circular economy has a great potential to achieve sustainability goals; because it can significantly reduce waste and ultimately improve the company's sustainability performance. Also, the circular economy can minimize the consumption of natural resources without affecting consumption.
